Getting Started and FAQs

A brief intro to Graph from Evan Michner, Head of Product

Graph 101

How is Graph different than other AI tools?

Graph gives engineering teams answers in seconds without leaving Slack. It analyzes GitHub, Jira, and Linear data to deliver rich, contextual insights on your schedule or on-demand. Whether you're checking out why a PR is blocked, monitoring sprint progress, or need a quick project recap, Graph goes beyond the data points to surface the full story. For more context, see Why Graph? or check out some of the Use Cases.

Graph is built in public, including how we measure quality. Read more on our public quality dashboard.

How do I sign up for Graph?

Graph is currently in beta, and available to install directly from the Slack Marketplace. During the beta period, Graph is free for all beta customers. Note that a paid Slack plan is required to use the Agent & Assistant functionality in Graph.

How do I install Graph?

You’ll need Admin permissions to install apps in your Slack workspace, and on the platforms you’d like to connect (e.g. GitHub, Jira, Linear).

From the app listing in the Slack Marketplace, you’ll install Graph into your Slack workspace. Then Graph will help you get connected to data sources, like GitHub, Jira, or Linear.

You can always disconnect or change these connections from the Home tab in Graph.

We set up a quick call with every new team, so if you run into any issues, we’ll get them sorted!

Using Graph

How do I interact with Graph?

There are two ways to interact with Graph:

  1. Direct Messages (1:1): Chat directly with Graph without needing to mention it in every message. Find the Graph app in your Slack sidebar and click +New Chat in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Channels: Mention @Graph to bring it into any channel conversation, then mention it again for each follow-up question.

What is a "thread" in Graph?

A thread represents a single chat thread with Graph. Each new chat starts a fresh thread. For best results, start a new thread when shifting to a different topic, as Graph's context may drift in lengthy threads.

Can I schedule recurring insights?

Yes! During the beta, you can request scheduled insights such as:

  • Daily developer activity reports
  • Weekly team status updates
  • Repository activity summariesContact our beta support team to set up scheduled insights for your specific needs.

These are usually set up quickly during the onboarding call, since during the beta, the ability to schedule is not yet live in the app itself. Just send us a note! beta@graphapp.ai

What is my “Profile?”

Your Profile is found from the Home tab. Think of it as long-term memory — add the repos, teams, projects, or priorities you care about and Graph’s insights will be exponentially more powerful.  The more context you share with Graph, the more relevant Graph’s answers will be.

Graph profile setup in Slack

Graph uses a Large Language Model (LLM) to generate insights and answers, LLMs have the potential to produce inaccurate results. Adding more context in your Profile dials Graph in.
